Gateway Garden

Our first major project was in 2003, when we developed the site of the former war memorial, located on the Main Road between Forth and Wilsontown.

This small square site had been derelict for many years and was occupied by an old bench.  Being on a popular walking route, the site was prime for development.

Funding was secured by the Forth Gateway Project Group from Central Scotland Forest Trust and The Levenseat Trust and in-kind assistance given by Forest Enterprise.

The area was fenced and paved, a central raised flower bed created and a new recycled plastic (low maintenance) seat installed. In November 2003, children from Forth Primary School assisted volunteers to plant around the area with spring bulbs.  A ‘bunch’ of crocus bulbs was also planted in the flower bed in aid of the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Forth Gateway Group members and volunteers sold lapel pins to raise funds for this charity in Spring 2004.
